Ligurian majolica plates

The casual motifs that appear on the majolica plates in this showcase could not tolerate strict framework and at first glance seem disorderly, scattered over the surface they decorate. Nevertheless, a certain regularity can still be observed in this seeming disorder.

Along with the regular occurrence of the modest architectural setting of rustic, oriental-like features, four human figures regularly appear in the empty space in the bottom right quarter of the plate - a larger figure in the foreground, and the other smaller ones – in the background.
