Engobed (slipware) ceramics
The fragments of ceramic vessels take the most significant place among the artefacts from the Basement of Diocletian’s Palace (1968-74), not just in terms of quantity, but also of quality. In the thick
layers deposited throughout the centuries, one could ‘’read’’ the history of everyday city life as well as of the development of pottery production, a special place among which belongs to the great number of larger and smaller bowls and dishes made out of engobed ceramic.
