Doll
1890
Up until the 18th century children were not entitled to a childhood since they were considered adults in a smaller size, therefore they were expected to behave maturely and responsibly. Until then dolls were produced both for adults and for children.
It was only in the 19th century that play took an important role in the development of every child. The production of toys especially for children increased in this period, and Europe became the centre of doll production. The Museum of the City of Split has exhibited, as part of its permanent collection, a doll dating from the late 19th century, produced in Paris.
