Clock
circa 1840
Although 19th-century Split was shaken by a changing and unstable political and economic situation, items of the period that have survived, such as this clock, indicate that, after all, Split continued to follow the modern European trends.
In the mid-century the clock became an increasingly important interior decoration. Quite often musical mechanisms were installed in clocks playing various dance tunes, and during the national revival - national songs. This clock is the aforementioned type of table-clock with a musical mechanism installed in the base, and is characteristic of the Biedermeier and the Empire style.
