Sedan chair
second half of XVIII c
This sedan chair belonged to the Archbishop of Split and Trogir, Ivan Luka Garagnin; born to a noble family in Trogir, he was the founder of the famous Library of Trogir and of the Garagnin family archives, and among others, a well-known collector of archaeological, numismatic and natural history objects.
The entry of the sedan chair in the collection of the Museum of the City of Split is marked as a special occasion as it was donated by the former Archbishop Bonefačić in 1928. That same year Tartaglia, the mayor at that time, approved its repair. The upper part of the sedan chair - its glass-paned sides - are framed by finely carved gilt tendrils. The lower part is depicted with mythological scenes in Rococo style, while the interior with the seat has a red brocade lining.
