Chest
beginning of the XVI century
The best piece of furniture in a Split home was the chest or casa, which had a wide instrumental role – from storing various objects to the possibility of sitting on it. According to the layout of compartments and trays, which was an innovation at that time, and because of the board that used to serve as a connection for the trays layout, we know for a fact that this chest was used as a ‘’safe’’ for keeping money in it. The partially gilded Caryatides on the front create the striking impression of a Renaissance shape with the remaining Gothic, perforated iron rosettes.
