Pietro Ferrari
The martyrdom of st. Duje (Domnius)
The painting was donated to the museum by the Capogrosso family of Sutivan in 1948. The art historian Radoslav Tomić has attributed the painting to Pietro Ferrari, considering it a smaller replica of the eponymous painting located in the apse of the main altar of the Cathedral of Split, as one of the six paintings depicting the life of St. Domnius.
The St. Domnius’ martyrdom scene is taking place on the staircase. White-painted Baroque architectural details are discernible in the upper part. St. Domnius, depicted as an old man, is lying on the staircase, his right hand raised, his head turned towards the other figures.
