St. Domnius in heavenly glory over the city of Split
A number of paintings and graphics have been preserved, dating from the 17th to the 19th century and depicting St. Domnius in heavenly glory over the city of Split. They all are of similar iconography to the one depicted in the book Rules of the Confraternity of Saint Domnius, dated 1688.
Saint Domnius is the famous martyr of Salona, whose relics are preserved in the Cathedral of Split, and with time, although at first dedicated to the Assumption of Mary, the Cathedral obtained the popular name St. Domnius.
In this painting dating from the late 18th century, in tempera on wood dominates the figure of St. Domnius. He is standing in the dense, thick clouds hovering over Split.
