Marko Marulić
Sculptor Ivan Meštrović
The author of the monument is Ivan Meštrović, who was born in Vrpolje in 1883, and died in South Bend in the USA in 1962. Ivan Meštrović is the most significant Croatian sculptor of the 20th century who studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna from 1901 to 1905.
Under the influence of the Viennese Secession and the French sculptor August Rodin, and on the basis of the European sculpture heritage as well as the ancient Assyrian and Egyptian sculpture, he created a distinctive and authentic artistic opus which has earned him the status of a world-renowned artist.
