‘Ice pistol’ – ledenica
‘Ice pistols’ were the most richly ornamented pistols of the Balkan peninsula. The name is probably motivated by the silver glow of the silver with which they were plated. Other authors state the possibility that the name stems from the word venedik or vedenik (the Turkish word for Venice), which folk etymology changed to ledenik (‘icy one’). It is assumed that this name was accepted only in the second part of the 19th century in Boka Kotorska. In Bosnia and Herzegovina the names ledenjača and ledenjak (iceberg) were also used.
