Yatagan
Yatagan was an omnipresent part of folklore amongst military and civilian people alike throughout the Ottoman Empire. Yatagan is a specific type of long knife with a characteristic hilt shape, in most cases they featured S-shaped gently curving single-edged blades with a concave curvature. Its difference in function from a sabre was that a sabre was used for cutting and a yatagan mainly for thrusting. It was used for defense and assault. The basic parts of the yatagan are: a hilt plaque – kabza, sheet metal joints – hašrma, leaf-shaped extensions– parazvana, a tanged blade, and a sheath.
