Horseman’s helmet

The great helm is an adapted version of the 14th- and 15th- century barbute and was worn during the Crusades. It was a part of a full set of armour; it completely covered the head and was attached to the mail (maille). It had a conical shape, a chin-piece and a visor which was accentuated and pointy in this case.
