Kantar – scales
A kantar with two pans (statera Croatica – Croatian scales) had on one side markings for weighing in Viennese, and on the other - in Croatian pounds (a unit of weight), and at a certain time it was used together with the forceps for disinfecting infected goods in the Lazaretto of Split.
The Lazaretto, designed by the Portuguese Jew Daniel Rodriga, had an exceptionally important role in the history of the city and was among the oldest European lazarettos. Significant trade took place through it between the Ottoman Empire and the Republic of Venice in the late 16th century and during the first half of the 17th century, which continued also later but with a somewhat lower intensity.
