Pole weapons

Pole weapons originated in prehistoric times as extensions of the hand. The blade was the only part of the pole weapon which underwent evolution, from the Stone and Bronze ages and up to the Iron Age. Up until the 15th century battles of heavily armored horsemen were mostly fought in the open field, with a minor role of infantry units. Due to an important change in the military tactics the pole weapons became primary in infantry battles.
