Matchlock musket

The emergence of the matchlock musket was made possible through numerous technical improvements during the 15th , 16th and 17th centuries. These rifles were continually developing until the 17th century after which they were gradually made obsolete.

In spite of its simple design, the matchlock had many flaws. The slow-match had to be kept lit continuously and it died out frequently.
