Schiavona sword
The most renowned Italian sword in Croatia is the schiavona sword, which emerged in the wider territories under Venetian rule. Some authors argue that the influence of Venice on the armament of soldiers from these areas could have taken place via Dubrovnik or Dalmatian towns under Venetian rule, and also possibly in the late 14th and early 15th centuries under the heavy influence of the Croato-Dalmatian Viceroy Nikola Frankopan, and also in the 1530s during the long stay of the Croato-Hungarian King Sigismund in Italy.
