Gothic sword
The medieval sword as a weapon in use from the 5th until the beginning of the first half of the 15th century, originated from the Celtic, Germanic, Anglo-Saxon types of sword and from an older Roman cavalry type (spatha). The later Viking and early Franconian types of swords are also believed to have influenced the shape of the medieval sword. The golden age of Romanic swords lasted from the 11th until the mid-13th century.
In the 13th and the 14th centuries this weapon evolved into large hand-and-a-half swords, collectively described as Gothic swords, whose use ended in the mid 15th century.
